Emily’s parents found out that she had CDH when her mother was 32 weeks pregnant. They relocated from Denver city in west Texas to Houston due to Emily’s severe case of CDH. There at Texas Children’s, George and Emily were neighbors! Mary Catherine and Emily’s mom, Carolina, became friends and supported each other during their time in the hospital. Emily had a crazy NICU stay with many surgeries and procedures. She beat several odds and showed how tough she was time and time again.

Unfortunately, Emily lost her battle on April 25th, 2021 due to severe pulmonary hypertension (side effect of CDH). Her family is heartbroken that they could not bring her home, but found peace that she is no longer in pain. They hope by sharing Emily’s story, they can continue to raise awareness for CDH.
